Gustav Klimt and the Vienna Secession
Dr Anne Anderson is known internationally as the straight-talking expert on Art Nouveau with a wicked sense of humour.
Her talk spotlights Gustav Klimt. He was a leading rebellious spirit who, in 1897, joined with artists, architects and designers to break away and shake up the staid Viennese Austro-Hungarian establishment with the Art Nouveau already sweeping Paris. They were not afraid to shock and dismay with taboo subjects and revolutionary techniques. That was evident in Klimt’s stunning portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer.
