Antiques Roadshow’s ???? ???????? talks on H G Murphy
John is the acknowledged expert on jewellery, gold and silver for the Antiques Roadshow. His book, co-authored with Paul Atterbury, is the definitive work on the life and work of Henry George Murphy as a groundbreaking jeweller, goldsmith and silversmith.
Murphy took his inspiration from the Arts and Crafts era and blended that with the vibrancy of Art Deco and the Jazz Age to produce a prodigious output of startling pieces. The Falcon Studio in Marylebone was the inspirational centre for design and craftsmanship from 1928 until he died in 1939.
In 2018 Woolley and Wallis used John and Paul’s book as the standard reference for a remarkable sale of items that had passed down the Murphy family.
