NCS volunteers make a difference at Greyfriars.
An offer we could not refuse!
On Monday the 6th August the Greyfriars office team were contacted by Abbie from NCS https://www.ncsyes.co.uk/to volunteer the services of 14 young people on the 9th August. With an offer like that we could not refuse so caretakers George, Phil and Bryn , office staff and volunteers Lynda and Noreen set about preparing a number of maintenance tasks in readiness for their visit.
On the day everyone arrived in good spirits, looking forward to their morning, and were quickly divided into groups. The first group led by Phil tackled the painting of Room 2 at the top of the old house. They listened to music as they painted ceilings, walls and doors with guidance from a watchful Phil. With Bryn’s help, the second group tackled sanding and scraping the old lampposts that edge the lane, in readiness for a smart new coat of paint…a truly laborious and time consuming job, which they tackled with a smile. The third worked with Claire and swept and tidied the attic room, cleared rubbish and cleaned kitchen cupboards and the fourth with George, cleaning windows at the back of the building and tackling the moss growing on the pavements.
At the end of the morning so much had been achieved and a truly excellent morning was had by all. We would like to thank Abbie and the team of students from NCS for really getting involved and making a real difference to their local Community Centre.
We look forward to another phone call next year!
