Strawberry Delight

About 112 elderly residents of Ringwood, St Leonards and St Ives enjoyed a Jubilee strawberry tea party on Greyfriars lawn last Thursday. Ringwood & District Community Association had invited Ringwood residents who regularly use their mini-bus, plus members of the Young at Heart Club, Ringwood & Fordingbridge Club for the Blind and Greyfriars Luncheon Club to an afternoon party to join in the celebrations of Greyfriars 60th anniversary.

“I loved the magicians and the band!”

The guests were served tea, sandwiches and homemade cakes, followed by strawberries and cream and Prosecco, all sponsored by the T H Russell Trust and prepared by Greyfriars Special Events Committee. Volunteers from Greyfriars Special Events team, Young at Heart, Blind Club and Luncheon Club all helped serve the party fare. Whilst enjoying tea the guests were entertained by Ringwood & Burley Band playing a selection of popular music. Magicians Ken Leonard and Don Booth toured the tables confounding everyone with their magic tricks.

“Thank you for a wonderful tea party!”

Transport was provided by volunteer drivers and escorts of the minibuses from Poulner Baptist Church and Greyfriars. The event was organised by Janet Dolby and Jo Barrett of Greyfriars, who thanked everyone who made the afternoon such a success. ‘It’s just wonderful! The weather turned out just right and everyone has really enjoyed the party atmosphere here on the lawn,’ said Janet as she chatted to members of all the clubs. ‘It’s a perfect way to celebrate sixty years of Greyfriars’.

One happy party goer said “Thank you for a wonderful tea party, even my coeliac food was great” . “Excellent cakes” said another.  ” Lovely weather and friendly people” said one of our regular minibus users, another said “A most enjoyable afternoon, thank you”.
